The law governing refugees and the processing of claims for refugee status in Ireland is set out in the Refugee Act, 1996 as amended by section 11(1) of the Immigration Act, 1999, by section 9 of the Illegal Immigrants (Trafficking) Act, 2000, by section 7 of the Immigration Act, 2003 and in the Orders, Regulations and Directions made under that Act.

Information on making an 'Application for Declaration as a Refugee', and about the 'Family Reunification Process', can be found at the website of the Office of the Refugee Applications Commissioner (ORAC):

The Refugee Appeals Tribunal (RAT) decides appeals of those asylum seekers whose applications for refugee status has not been recommended by the Officer of the Refugee Applications Commissioner (ORAC). Information on the Refugee Appeals Tribunal can be found at their website:
