The law governing refugees and the processing of claims for refugee status in Ireland is set out in the Refugee Act, 1996 as amended by section 11(1) of the Immigration Act, 1999, by section 9 of the Illegal Immigrants (Trafficking) Act, 2000, by section 7 of the Immigration Act, 2003 and in the Orders, Regulations and Directions made under that Act.
